What’s Queer About Polygamy?: The Dustin Lance Black Interview

Sorry to take so long to get the audio uploaded.  I had a great hour at the Salt Lake City Library with Lance Black — the screenwriter from Big Love and the soon to be released Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Sean Penn.  Lance is a gifted writer with great human insight.  We discussed the role of the outsider in both film and television and used Big Love as a window through which we could discuss the positive value of the "manufactured" or "constructed" family — a theme that Lance says constantly shows up in all his work.   Thanks also to my friends Geralyn Dreyfous and Katherine Toll (and the other fab ladies) from the Salt Lake City Film Center and the Damn These Heels Film Festival.  They are doing a great job of bringing important issue based cinema to Utah. Keep your eyes open for Lance’s Harvey Milk biopic, and season 3 of Big Love, which will premiere in early 2009.   I hope you enjoy the conversation.
